Whether it is snow, sleet or rain, the weather can wreak havoc on Ohio’s roadways. In many cases, it is because a driver fails to appropriately adjust his or her driving based on how the weather affects the road and traffic flow. Of course, even a diligent driver could lose control and end up in a car accident when the weather creates potentially dangerous travel.
Investigators may be wondering whether the weather played a role in a recent two-car crash. There were scattered snow showers on the morning of the accident. The two vehicles collided at approximately 7:12 a.m. on a Tuesday morning. One vehicle was headed north while the other was headed south.
The impact was violent enough that the 27-year-old passenger was killed. The 22-year-old driver was fortunate enough to survive the crash, but suffered unknown injuries. The 42-year-old driver of the second vehicle survived with unknown injuries. At last report, both drivers remained hospitalized in stable condition. Depending on the outcome of the official investigation, one driver may face criminal charges in connection with the crash.
Even if neither driver is found to be criminally responsible for this deadly car accident, the family of the deceased passenger and the other driver may still seek restitution through the filing of a wrongful death or personal injury claim in an Ohio civil court. In order to prevail in such a claim, it will be necessary to prove to the court that negligence led to the death or injuries suffered with the appropriate evidence. The odds of receiving an award of damages could increase by utilizing local legal resources.
