Car accidents may leave people with traumatic injuries

When motorcycles clash with larger vehicles, the motorcycle rider is seldom the winner. Car accidents involving motorcycles often result in life-changing injuries. One Ohio woman was recently hospitalized after her bike was struck by a car. While she was fortunate to survive the collision, her life may never be the same.

The 51-year-old woman was driving her motorcycle through an intersection when a car collided with her. The car had paused at the stop sign, and the driver apparently determined that there were no vehicles in the intersection before proceeding into the path of the motorcycle. The woman was thrown from her bike and suffered a devastating injury to her leg. By the time police arrived on the scene, the woman’s husband had applied a tourniquet to the limb. However, the leg had been severed, and surgeons were unable to reattach it.

The car was driven by a 20-year-old college student and carried five additional passengers. Although the driver did not seem to be speeding or impaired, she was cited for several violations, including having her view obstructed by her passengers. Ohio police also charged several of the passengers with obstructing the driver’s view as well as seat belt violations and having open containers in a vehicle.

The victim is a veteran of more than 20 years with the local firefighter’s union, as well as being a registered nurse. It is unlikely that she will be able to continue in those careers after her accident. Like many who suffer catastrophic wounds in car accidents, she has the right to contact an attorney to discuss the possibility of pursuing a personal injury claim. Potential compensation may help her pay for the treatment and long-term care her injury may require.
