I took Zantac and got cancer — what do I do?

by | Jul 13, 2021 | Zantac Recall

Headlines across the nation point out the connection between Zantac use and cancer. If you took Zantac for three years or more and developed cancer, you likely have a valid claim against Zantac manufacturers.

What should I do to claim compensation?

A nationwide lawsuit is ongoing right now. Getting involved and holding those responsible for their wrongdoing is relatively easy. It generally only requires a short amount of time filling out some paperwork. That’s it. If you throw your name in the ring, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses due to a cancer diagnosis.

Tens of thousands of people may collect compensation for their losses from using Zantac. The big question is whether or not the manufacturers and distributors were aware of the possibility that the medication could cause cancer. There is evidence to support the argument that they did.

How big of a problem is Zantac?

Physicians throughout the country wrote over 15 million prescriptions for Zantac every single year. This did not include all the additional people that purchased the medication over the counter. These are huge numbers. When all is said and done, this lawsuit could be comparable to the tobacco litigation of the late 90s.

How did this happen?

It can help to understand a bit of the history. Zantac first entered the market in the 1980s and quickly became a popular choice for those who needed to manage heartburn. In the early 2000s, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Zantac as an over-the-counter medication. In 2018, regulators became aware of the possibility that Zantac use could cause cancer. It appears that use of Zantac leads to the production of nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a substance the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers a carcinogen. As a result, reports quickly emerged about Zantac causing many kinds of cancer.

Don’t wait to take action. The clock is ticking for cancer victims and their surviving family members to make claims against Zantac manufacturers.
