Passengers often pay for driver mistakes in car accidents

In Ohio and elsewhere, drivers do not always make the best decisions behind the wheel. They often make mistakes that sometimes lead to car accidents. When that happens, their passengers could pay the price for putting their trust in them and suffer serious injuries.

A passenger recently injured in an accident here in Ohio is paying the price for the driver’s mistake. They were traveling on State Route 60 at around 3:30 p.m. when the crash occurred. When police arrived, they found a vehicle that had crashed through a guardrail.

It quickly became obvious that the driver and passenger were trapped in the wreckage. Emergency personnel had to extricate the pair, who remained conscious despite their apparently serious injuries. They were then transported to the hospital, but their current conditions were not available at last report.

Depending on the severity of the injuries suffered, both the driver and passenger could spend a significant amount of time recovering from their injuries. During that time, they will more than likely lose income, rack up medical bills and sustain other financial losses that could cause serious financial issues now and in the future. Then there is the concern that the injuries may prevent one or both of them from returning to their normal lives.

The passenger may exercise the right to file a personal injury claim against the driver in an attempt to recover at least some of those monetary losses. If the evidence proves negligence on the part of the driver, which appears likely, a civil court may enter an award of damages allowed by law. As is the case with other victims of car accidents, any funds received as a result could help with current and future medical and other expenses arising out of the crash.
