The wreckage tells the story in some vehicle accidents

They say that a picture is worth 1,000 words. That may not be truer than in some vehicle accidents. The state of the wreckage can often tell the story regarding what happened to the occupants of the vehicles involved.

For example, Ohio 41 became the scene of a horrific crash on a recent Thursday evening. Witnesses say that the driver of one of the vehicles involved was careening past several vehicles on the paved berm of the right side of the westbound lanes. At around 6:25 p.m., the driver of that vehicle lost control of it. The vehicle then flew into the oncoming lanes of travel where the unsuspecting driver of a van heading eastbound was unable to avoid colliding with the out-of-control car.

The force of the impact left the car torn in half. Not surprisingly, its driver failed to survive the crash. The occupants of the van suffered unknown injuries for which they were transported to area hospitals, and some were transferred to other hospitals in the area. One person remained trapped in the wreckage, and it took emergency responders about 30 minutes to free him or her. The injured survivors could face long and difficult recoveries depending on their injuries.

Like the victims of other vehicle accidents, those injured in this crash could incur significant financial losses as they recover. Ohio law allows them to pursue restitution for those losses through the filing of personal injury claims. Even though the driver of the other vehicle failed to survive, restitution may be sought from his or her estate.
